Chatty Monks Brewing Company

was an independent craft brewery founded by five friends with a shared passion for creating distinctive beer. Located in West Reading, Pennsylvania, the brewery became known for combining handcrafted beer with an approachable gastropub experience. The business was later purchased by the Jagadesan family in 2021, who expanded its presence with a brewhouse, taproom, and lounge in Reading.

Chatty Monks Brewing Company developed a diverse beer program featuring both traditional and contemporary styles. Its offerings have included Endoplasmic Reticulum IPA, Pray For More IPA, Chatty Premium Lager, and Nothing Gose as Planned, along with rotating seasonal and specialty releases. The brewery emphasized fresh, house-made beer and creative brewing, giving visitors opportunities to explore different flavors and styles during each visit.

One of Chatty Monks’ most distinctive features was its Indian-American fusion cuisine, pairing house-brewed beer with dishes inspired by Indian flavors and American gastropub traditions. The brewery became part of the Berks County craft beverage community and welcomed guests at its West Reading pub and newer Reading facility. The Reading location helped expand the brand’s brewing and hospitality operations while continuing its focus on beer and food pairings.

The West Reading brewpub closed in February 2025, while the brewing operation continued under the Pagoda City Brewery identity. For visitors researching Pennsylvania’s craft beer history, Chatty Monks Brewing Company remains notable for its creative beer selection, Indian-fusion food concept, and role in developing Reading’s modern brewery scene.
