Rudd Estate Founded in 1996 by entrepreneur and wine visionary Leslie Rudd, Rudd Estate is one of Napa Valley’s most respected luxury wine estates, dedicated to producing world-class wines that express the unique terroir of Oakville and Mount Veeder. Rudd, best known for his ownership of Dean & DeLuca, Oakville Grocery, and other hospitality ventures, purchased the historic Oakville property with a long-term vision of creating a small but exceptional estate focused on Bordeaux varietals. The acquisition marked the beginning of a meticulous effort to build a winery capable of producing wines that could stand among the finest in the world.
Located on Napa Valley’s eastern Oakville bench, Rudd Estate benefits from a remarkable combination of red volcanic soils, alluvial deposits, and underground streambeds that contribute complexity and distinction to its wines. In 1999, Leslie Rudd expanded the estate’s vineyard holdings by acquiring an additional property on Mount Veeder, providing an ideal site for Sauvignon Blanc and other white varietals. This dual-estate approach allowed the winery to explore the diversity of Napa Valley terroir while maintaining an unwavering focus on quality.
A defining characteristic of Rudd Estate is its vineyard-first philosophy. The winery emphasizes sustainable farming, detailed soil mapping, low yields, and precise vineyard management to capture the nuances of each site. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the foundation of the portfolio, complemented by Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Sauvignon Blanc. The wines are crafted in limited quantities and are recognized for their elegance, structure, depth, and long aging potential.
Following Leslie Rudd’s passing in 2018, his daughter Samantha Rudd assumed leadership of the estate and continued the family’s commitment to excellence while expanding its hospitality and culinary connections. Under her stewardship, Rudd Estate maintained its reputation as one of Napa Valley’s premier wine destinations, known for highly personalized tasting experiences and an uncompromising approach to winemaking.
In 2026, Rudd Estate entered a new chapter when it was acquired by St. Supéry Estate Vineyards & Winery, a subsidiary of Chanel. Despite the change in ownership, the estate remains recognized for its extraordinary Oakville vineyards, commitment to stewardship, and legacy of producing some of Napa Valley’s most refined and terroir-driven wines.
