Carica Wines at Riggers Loft

Carica Wines is a boutique California winery founded in 2005 by winemaker Charlie Dollbaum with the goal of producing handcrafted, single-vineyard wines that express the unique character of premium Northern California vineyards. Named after the Ficus carica fig tree, a symbol of peace and prosperity, the winery emphasizes small-lot production, sustainable vineyard sourcing, and minimal-intervention winemaking. In 2009, Carica Wines relocated to the historic Riggers Loft building on the waterfront in Richmond, creating an urban winery that combines traditional craftsmanship with a distinctive San Francisco Bay setting.

Carica Wines sources organically or sustainably grown grapes from acclaimed vineyards in Sonoma, Mendocino, Solano, and other Northern California wine regions. The portfolio includes Syrah, Grenache, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, Petite Sirah, Mourvèdre, and carefully crafted red blends. Each wine is produced in limited quantities with close attention to vineyard expression, balance, and varietal character, resulting in elegant wines that consistently earn recognition at prestigious wine competitions.

Visitors to Carica Wines at Riggers Loft enjoyed tastings in a beautifully restored World War II waterfront building overlooking San Francisco Bay, creating a memorable setting for exploring the winery’s handcrafted wines. Although the public tasting room has since closed, private tastings remain available by arrangement. With its commitment to premium vineyard sources, small-lot production, and authentic craftsmanship, Carica Wines continues to offer an outstanding California wine experience.
