Founded in 2011 by renowned winemaker James Hall and his wife, celebrated food and wine writer Erin Scala, Texture Wines is a boutique Sonoma producer dedicated exclusively to crafting world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The winery was born from the couple’s shared belief that these two classic varieties possess an extraordinary ability to express site, vintage, and winemaking philosophy. Before establishing Texture, James Hall had already earned widespread acclaim as the founder and winemaker of the highly respected Patz & Hall winery. After decades of producing acclaimed wines from California’s premier vineyard sites, Hall launched Texture as a smaller, more focused project that would allow him to pursue an even more meticulous approach to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Erin Scala, an accomplished sommelier, wine educator, and writer, brought her expertise in wine communication and sensory evaluation to the venture, helping shape the winery’s identity and vision.
