Vineyard 48

was a family-operated North Fork winery known for handcrafted wines, mature vineyard plantings, and a lively tasting experience in Cutchogue. The property was originally developed in 1982 as Bidwell Vineyards, making it one of the earlier commercial vineyard sites on Long Island. In 2005, the Pipia family purchased the estate and reopened it as Vineyard 48, taking its name from its location along Route 48.

The approximately 33-acre property included around 25 acres of vines, a tasting room, and a spacious wine cellar. Its portfolio featured varieties associated with Long Island’s maritime climate, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and other red and white selections. Guests could sample premium handcrafted wines while learning about the estate’s established vines and regional growing conditions.

For many years, Vineyard 48 attracted visitors seeking wine, music, social gatherings, and a relaxed North Fork atmosphere. However, the winery closed permanently in 2017 after its operating license was suspended. Although it no longer welcomes guests, the estate remains part of Long Island’s modern wine history. Its mature vineyards, family ownership story, and former role as a popular tasting destination reflect both the opportunities and challenges of operating a winery in a growing tourism region.
