Silver Coast Winery

offers a welcoming coastal wine experience shaped by personal passion, careful grape selection, and European-inspired winemaking. The winery began when Dr. “Bud” and Maryann Azzato decided to share their enthusiasm for wine with friends and visitors. They purchased a former local barbecue restaurant that had stood vacant for seven years, renovated the building extensively, and opened Silver Coast Winery in May 2002.

Winemaking operations began later that year using premium grapes sourced from selected vineyards in North Carolina, northern Georgia, and Virginia. Because the coastal climate supports primarily Muscadine and Scuppernong grapes, the winery relies on mountain and Yadkin Valley growers for varieties used in its European-style wines. The winemaker regularly visits these vineyards to monitor fruit development and coordinate harvest timing.

Freshly picked grapes are placed inside refrigerated tractor-trailers and delivered to the winery by the following day, helping preserve their quality before production begins. This careful process reflects the winery’s commitment to creating balanced, expressive wines from dependable regional fruit. With its renovated landmark setting, thoughtful sourcing, and dedication to quality, Silver Coast Winery provides an enjoyable destination for travelers exploring North Carolina’s coastal wine scene.
