Saga Vineyards

was a small family-owned Oregon winery that reflected the dream of creating handcrafted wines in the scenic northern Willamette Valley. Established during the 1980s by Richard and Juliana Pixner after relocating from Austria, the vineyard began as a retirement project inspired by the couple’s admiration for Oregon’s climate and growing wine industry. They planted a modest three-acre vineyard near Colton and combined grape growing with their experience importing high-quality oak barrels for regional winemakers. Although the winery operated for only a limited period, it earned recognition as one of the many pioneering small producers that contributed to the early growth of Oregon’s modern wine community.

The winery focused on producing small-batch wines crafted from estate-grown grapes, emphasizing careful vineyard management and traditional European winemaking techniques. Each vintage was aged in premium oak barrels, reflecting Richard Pixner’s background in supplying Austrian and Yugoslavian cooperage to wineries throughout the Pacific Northwest. Limited production allowed close attention to every stage of the winemaking process, creating balanced wines that highlighted the character of the vineyard and the cool-climate conditions of the region.
