Carlo’s Garage Wine

Carlo's Garage Winery Carlo's Garage Winery is a family-owned urban winery located in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District, where generations of Italian winemaking tradition have been preserved in one of the city’s most unique historic buildings. The winery’s story dates back to the Prohibition era when Italian immigrant Domenico Iasella secretly made wine in the basement of his auto repair garage to continue his family’s cherished traditions. His son, Carlo, carried on both the garage business and the passion for winemaking, and decades later the former mechanic’s garage was transformed into Pittsburgh’s first urban winery. While many original features of the garage remain, the space now offers an inviting tasting room, café, and bakery where visitors can enjoy handcrafted wines in a setting that celebrates the city’s rich heritage and the Iasella family’s enduring legacy.

Guests can enjoy a thoughtfully crafted selection of handcrafted wines produced in small batches from carefully selected grapes sourced from premier vineyards in California and Chile. The portfolio includes elegant reds, crisp whites, refreshing rosés, and specialty wines, each crafted using traditional techniques and carefully aged to develop depth, balance, and character. Guided tastings provide visitors with the opportunity to sample a variety of wines while knowledgeable staff share the fascinating history of the winery, the family’s winemaking traditions, and recommendations for food pairings.

Beyond its wines, Carlo's Garage Winery features an artisan café, bakery, and a welcoming atmosphere that reflects the character of Pittsburgh’s Strip District. Whether enjoying a tasting, sharing a meal with friends, or taking home a favorite bottle, visitors can expect genuine hospitality, handcrafted quality, and an authentic Pennsylvania winery experience.
