Knipprath Cellars

was a respected family-owned Washington winery founded in 1991 by Henning and Pat Knipprath. Located in Spokane, the winery reflected Henning Knipprath’s lifelong passion for wine, inspired by his studies in California, time spent in Germany’s renowned wine regions, and years of exploring vineyards around the world while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Beginning with only 300 cases of barrel-fermented Chardonnay, the winery steadily earned recognition for producing handcrafted wines that balanced European influence with the character of Washington-grown grapes. As production expanded, Knipprath Cellars became known for its welcoming tasting room, personal hospitality, and commitment to quality winemaking.

The winery produced an impressive portfolio that included Chardonnay, Fumé Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Muscat Blanc, Riesling, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, specialty red blends, late-harvest wines, and Port-style wines. Fruit was sourced from respected Washington vineyards, allowing each wine to showcase vibrant fruit, balanced structure, and regional character. Small-lot production and careful cellar practices ensured consistency while giving visitors an opportunity to experience a diverse range of handcrafted wines through informative guided tastings.

Although Knipprath Cellars is no longer operating, it remains an important part of Washington’s winemaking history.
